A Guided Prayer for those affected by the pandemic (which is pretty much everyone)



Medical personnel

  • Those in hot spots

  • Safety and well being of family

  • Psalms 23:1-4 - The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff,they comfort me”

  • Emotional well being

  • Resources (medicine, PPE, personnel)

Educators

  • Wisdom for administrators

  • James 1:5 - “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

  • Balancing physical safety with emotional safety (plus students who need food, safe space, etc)

  • Considering teacher safety

  • Funding for resources

  • Teachers not knowing the plans (worry)

  • Philippians 4:6-7 - “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • Balancing time with family and time preparing - (no such thing as summer off)

  • How to best teach students and meet their needs

Parents

  • Decisions about school in the fall

  • Proverbs 16:9 - “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

  • Worry about what to do if school closes

  • Wisdom for safety and social distancing now

  • Setting a good example

  • Patience with children who are home

  • Tired

  • Galatians 6:9 - “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Grandparents

  • Balancing personal safety with desire to see family

  • Fear of getting sick

  • Unseen enemy: Psalm 56:3-4 - “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. 4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?"

Pastors

  • Wisdom on opening church and keeping people safe

  • Some rules will keep people away while not having them will keep others away

  • Fulfilling the great commission

  • Matthew 28:19-20 - “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  • Their own health and safety

  • Well being of their families

Essential workers

  • Struggle with following rules set out by employers

  • Dealing with exhaustion

  • Matthew 11:28 - “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

  • Possibly keeping them away from family members

Unemployed

  • Interviewing safely

  • Slow unemployment process

  • Emotional and financial strain on family

  • Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”

  • Fill time productively

Government Officials

  • Local officials

  • State officials

  • Federal officials

  • Leaders around the world

  • Need wisdom to know what’s best for the people they were elected to serve

  • They were placed in authority by your sovereign hand so please guide them, bless them, and give them a desire to seek your will

Everyone

  • Trust in sovereignty of God

  • Ephesians 1:11 - “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,”

  • Sensitive to Holy Spirit

  • Love neighbors

  • Physical safety

  • Meeting spiritual needs

  • Meeting physical needs

  • Even when people disagree, help us to love them

Thanks

  • Technology which helps us connect

  • Body of believers tasked to serve

  • Sending Jesus to die for our sins

  • This life is not the end
